The design team at pepper came up with four alternatives for the kitchen layout which covered all the possibilities within the space. The client selected one particular plan and incorporated various aspects and ideas from the other three – the basis of the final layout is a galley kitchen with cooktops and sinks running parallel to the large island bench with overhang for breakfast bar seating on two sides. The rear wall houses the integrated refrigeration and wine fridge.
Poggenpohl is renowned for near-perfect lacquer surfaces so we selected a high-gloss black lacquered surface on the eye-level cabinets to reflect the views. To contrast the boldness of the black, a high-gloss white lacquered door was used on the island bench and base cabinets. The benchtops are 80mm Calcutta marble which creates a beautiful balance between the black and the white. The Poggenpohl handles are recessed into the top of each door with an overhang concealed by the benchtop.
We supplied the Gaggenau oven and steam oven with a warming drawer to form an aluminium cube which matches the height of the recess along the rear cabinets. A Gaggenau induction cooktop facilitates the ‘stove-top’ cooking with extraction via a Qasair, twin-motor rangehood.
