Darling Street, South Yarra

Here we are in a stunning South Yarra home with a lovely couple from New Zealand. Their home is architecturally designed to the last millimetre, it feels great, modern, open and the kitchen is beautiful so what are we doing here?

The brief is “more drawers please!”

We regularly pull-out tired old kitchens and transform spaces but this is a new challenge for Pepper Design. We are going to pull out a stunning kitchen and replace it with…. A stunning Poggenpohl kitchen! Luckily our new client is more shrewd than average and they know what they want from the outset – the functionality of this new kitchen is the priority! Pepper Design can’t help but rise to the challenge of improving it’s looks too.

The rear wall of the kitchen has a beautiful long window which dictates the overall design. The design team set about using 6mm powder-coated black steel as a frame and shelving around the black-frame window and to hide the rangehood. The rangehood itself is clad in a porcelain material which pops out as a feature element. The base cabinets are full of drawers to the delight of our client.

The island bench has been elongated and simplified to give one flat surface and increase the feeling of space. By eliminating dead space infront of the sliding doors we have created more of a flow from inside to out and a servery area to the balcony. The benchtop is Dekton so it can take any amount of heat and will refuse to scratch or stain under the pressure of modern cooking. The doors of the kitchen are a combination of Poggenpohl Glass – high-gloss white and mat black and they surround our beautiful Miele appliances.
